Event_id 6008 - Unexpected Reboot

I have a Windows 2000 SP4 server running SQL Server 2000
Enterprise Edition that continually gets an event 6008
(the previous shutdown was unexpected). I also get the
following bugcheck and memory error. Does anyone know
what these errors are and how to correct them? Thanks.
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Save Dump
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Date: 9/24/2004

increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file.
During this process, memory requests for some applications
may be denied. For more information, see Help. The memory ran low first - you can monitor memory on the
server with System Monitor.
In terms of the reboot and dump, you can use the Windows
Debugging tools to analyzer the memory dump file to
determine was caused the server to crash. You can get more
information and download the debugging tools from:

message:
BugCheck D1, {1060213, 2, 0, f64d1932}
Probably caused by : SCSIPORT.SYS ( SCSIPORT!
SpAllocateSrbExtension+156 )
After searching Microsoft, there seemed to be many
potential causes for scsiport.sys errors, but could not
find one that exactly matched this criteria.

event viwer

Is there a way to pull the event viwer from a system sp or
xp with out writing a new xp?Jared,
"pull" means? you can use master..xp_logevent or RAISERROR (...) WITH LOG to
log a user-defined message to the Event Viewer. Does that help?

Event Viewer won't display events

I'm not sure if this is the right group. Might not at all be related to the
SQL Server instatllation, but here goes:
I've just installed SQL Server 2000 on a new Windows 2003 Server box.
After a couple of weeks I get an service failed to start error when booting
the system.
When I try to access the event viewer to examine the error, I get the
following message:
"Unable to complete the operation on 'Application'."
"The interface is unknown"
Of all the automatic services that presumably should have started, both the
WMI Service and the Task Scheduler Service has failed to start.
When trying to start the Task Sheduler I get the same error I get from the
Event Viewer.
The WMI Service just reports that a service on which it depends have failed
to start.
When accessing service properties and choosing the dependencies tab I get
the message:
"Win32: The dependency service or group failed to start"
I'm running around in the dark here as I can't access any event messages to
troubleshoot the problem.
Any input is welcome
Do or die..

Event Viewer Overload

With a SQL2000 EM installed on an XP pro client, we are getting 2 entries
every 12 seconds in the security log on each server registered and connected.
This is despite audit being set to failure only. This makes the logs
virtually unusable for analysis purposes. We do not have this problem with
the same EM client on NT4 sp6. Can anyone advise if it is possible to stop
this constant logging?
Try turning off the polling of the services that is turned
on by default in Enterprise Manager.
In Enterprise Manager, go to the menu to Tools, select
Options. On the General Tab, remove the check for Server
State Polling.

In Enterprise Manager you can select the properties of the Job and Select the
Notifications tab. The Write to Windows application Event Log check box
determines whether the Event Log Job Notification is enabled or not.
The Event Log Job Notification can also be disabled using the sp_update_job
Stored Procedure as illustrated below:
eg.
EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_update_job @.job_name = 'foo',
@.notify_level_eventlog = 0

Event Type for Object:ALTERED, Object:Created , Object:Deleted Event Class

Hi

I am trying to create a EVENT NOTIFICATION for tracking changes to existing database objects. New Database objects, DEletion of any database objects.

For this I would like to know what is the EEVEN TYPE given in CREATE NOTIFICATION syntax for the three events...

CREATE EVENT NOTIFICATION Logging_Schema_Change_Notification

ON DATABASE

FOR Object:Altered_EVENT -- This is the piece that is failing ...what is the name ?

TO SERVICE 'LoggingSchemaService', 'current database'

Event Properties

Hi All,
before you understand my problem see the http://www.eventid.net
the above URL is similar to my problem.
According to my project requirement I will give the EventID as input of
any Event. [Ex : MSSQLSERVER EventID is 17055].
So I have to retrieve all the standard properties of Events as per the
EventID. [Ex : you restart the MSSQLSERVER Service and see the Event
Viewer log file so you will have the Log Entry for MSSQLSERVER double
click on it. so u will find some of the standard properties
of the events like [Date, Time, Source, EventID, Description...etc.].
Sincerely,
RasheedThere is not enough information here to understand what you are trying to
accomplish.
It sounds like you are trying to get help doing some kind of programming
class assignment. I suggest that you read and/or re-read the class
textbooks, paying especial attention to the sections on What is a database
server?, and How to query a database server?
Or if I'm wrong, please supply more detailed information about what is the
problem that you are trying to solve. Include the table DDL, a few rows of
sample data in the form of insert statements, and your attempted DML.

Event Notifications don't fire when raised by Activated procedure

I have an activated SP that is issuing PRINT statements.

These are raised as ErrorLog and EventLog events when using SQLProfiler

However if you attach an event notification for ERRORLOG and EVENTLOG, nothing appears in the queue. Any other ERRORLOG or EVENTLOG event caught by profiler is caught by the event notification as expected.

Please use the SQLServer feedback site to report this issue: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback

Event Notifications are not in the SQL Management Studio UI?

hi. can't seem to find the event notifications in the service broker folder of Management Studio.. I can get the information from sys.event_notifications, but it seems odd that event notifications are not in the UI. Hopefully I'm looking in the wrong place?

Event notifications use Service Broker for delivery but they are not part of Service Broker. When you create a queue and a service to handle an event notification, the service will show up in the service Broker UI. Management Studio support is not completely implemented for some of the new features in SQL Server 2005 so occasionally you may find some minor gaps in the GUI coverage that require you to look up the DDL to accomplish what you need to do.

Event Notification vs. Triggers

Hi,
Event Notifications can send a message to particular service while this can
be done exactly in a trigger. I mean the DDL/DML trigger can send required
message to a service for asynchronous processing. So what's the advantage of
using Event Notification?
Thanks,

Event Notification Syntax Error

Hi

I have a simple question regarding event notification in sql 2005. I keep up getting a message indicating a syntax error when trying to execute the following script. I also tried with [ instead of '.

CREATE EVENT NOTIFICATION NotifyCT
ON DATABASE
FOR CREATE_TABLE
TO SERVICE 'NotifyService'

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 4
Incorrect syntax near 'NotifyService'.

I cannot find any error in my syntax. Please help

Thanks

You need to specify the broker instance for the service. Ex:

CREATE EVENT NOTIFICATION NotifyCT
ON DATABASE
FOR CREATE_TABLE
TO SERVICE 'NotifyService', '<broker_instance_guid>'

-- or

CREATE EVENT NOTIFICATION NotifyCT
ON DATABASE
FOR CREATE_TABLE
TO SERVICE 'NotifyService', 'current database'

See Books Online "CREATE EVENT NOTIFICATION" topic for more details.

Event Notification question

I am working on a c# app that utilizes Event Notification. So far I have bee
n
able to get it to work with pretty simplistic SQL statements but I have run
into a problem.
The query that I need the application to use relies on a view as part of an
inner join. When I add this SQL statement to the dependency the onChange
event fires continuously. Can I not use a view in a dependancy?
Here is the SQL that I am adding to the dependancy;
private string GetSQL()
{
return "SELECT dbo.Employees.FirstName, dbo.Employees.LastName,
dbo.Employees.Department, dbo.Employees.Email, " +
"dbo.Employees.Extension, dbo.EventLog.Type,
dbo.EventLog.Location, dbo.EventLog.Comment, dbo.EventLog.ReturnDateTime, "
+
"dbo.EventLog.Time FROM dbo.Employees INNER JOIN dbo.LastEvent
ON dbo.Employees.ID = dbo.LastEvent.EmployeeID " +
"INNER JOIN dbo.EventLog ON dbo.LastEvent.EmployeeID =
dbo.EventLog.EmployeeID AND dbo.LastEvent.LastEntry = dbo.EventLog.Time";
}
Everything in this SQL statement is a table except for LastEvent.
LastEvent is a pretty simple view that takes the EventLog tables EmployeeID
and Time and selects the most recent entry.
Could this circular refrencing back unto itself be part of my problem?I have narrowed my roblem down to the MAX aggregat function that I am using
in my view.
The view takes all fo a employees events and selects the most recent one
using a MAX(eventTime) aggregate.
Accoridng to the query generator I can not index the view as long as it
contains this MAX aggregate.
can anyone offer a suggested work around for this?|||The query restrictions are detailed here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms181122.aspx
The indexed view restrictions are detailed here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms191432(SQL.90).aspx
BTW, the feature is actually called Query Notifications. Event Notifications
is for delivering notifications when certain DDL events occur (like a table
is created or dropped).

Event notification on disabled queue: the conversation must end?

Hello,

I have configured an Event Notification for BROKER_QUEUE_DISABLED.

I created a Queue different from the one the Receive my normal messages and on this queue I define an activation.

The Activated SP takes the [EventNotification] message and execute a

RAISEERROR('Message',0,1) WITH LOG.

The error is properly logged in the SQL server event log but I gave a look the Initiator and target sys.conversation_endpoints catalog view and I have see the the conversations are in the status CONVERSING or SI ...

Do I have to call the END CONVERSATION after the commit or these statuses are caused by some mistakes on the message process workflow?

Thank you

Marina B.

The conversations used by the event notifications infrastructure should not be ended. They will be ended by initiator when the event notification object is dropped (DROP EVENT NOTIFICATION ...). You procedure should react to the EndDialog message by ending it's side. If you end the conversations prematurely from the procedure side you are in effect disabling the event notification (it will have to be dropped and created again).

This applies for all event notifications, it is not specific to BROKER_QUEUE_DISABLED.

Event Notification disapears from sys.event_notifications

Hello Remus,

I have implemented Event Notification sample you provided in my logic, but I am perplexed that even though my watched queue does go down, I do not get message in the Event_Collector queue all the time. The Event_Collector queue does stay enabled though. Any thoughts? I guess any suggestions on debugging the event notification portion would be helpful.

Lubomir
Upon further look at the sys.event_notifications view, I discovered that my event notification is not there any more - it disappears. So the first time the queue goes down, the notification is successful and the Event Notification is still in sys.event_notifications. Second attemp removes the Event Notification from sys.event_notifications.

Lubomir|||

Can you check if the event notification infrastructure isn't receving back an error or an end dialog message on the system dialog that delivers the notifications? Look into errorlog or in Event Viewer (Application), see if you find a record similar to one of these:

Event notification conversation on dialog handle '{4B086B77-C691-DA11-AD12-00030D303B72}' closed without an error.

or:

Closed event notification conversation endpoint with handle '{B1663957-C791-DA11-AD12-00030D303B72}', due to the following error: '<?xml version="1.0"?><Error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error"><Code>-8494</Code><Description>You do not have permission to access the service &apos;s&apos;.</Description></Error>'.

HTH,

|||Thank you Remus,

Yup it was the End Dialog message I had; Things work great now.

Event notification and Service Broker

Hello,

I read in one thread that Event notification can use Service Broker for delivery.
How Service broker can be used in Event Notification for delivery of notifications?

any further links or related article?

Thanks in advance

Hi -

"Out of the box" SQL Server Notification Services can send notifications via email or to a file (primarily used for testing and debugging). However, you can write your own delivery protocols to send messages via most any protocol you wish.

Can you provide a link to the thread that discusses using Service Broker with Notification Services? I'd like to read what the posters are saying would be a good integration; I don't know that I readily see it.

Here's a link to an MSDN article on Service Broker by Roger Wolter. It's a good read and a good place to get familar with Service Broker if you're not already familar with it.

Please let me know if there is relation between Event notification and Service Broker. Can we use Service broker in Event Notification?

Hi -

The two technologies share some of the same terminology, and from a very high level they share a bit of the same functionality, but they are designed to solve different business problems. Unfortunately the shared terminology frequently leads to confusion.

In the end, Service Broker does not use SQLNS for its event notification.

event notification

Does anyone know if there is any software available that notifies specified people when an error above a certian level occurs. Im thinking along the lines of email and text message.

Im running sql server 2k at sp3a level, and the software will have to be compatible with it so as to get the event notification to pass the information on.

If there isn't any software, would anyone know of any scripts that will do this?I'd use the SQL Mail (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/adminsql/ad_1_server_8xf0.asp) that is included with SQL Server (at least until somebody dreams up a need that it can't fulfill).

-PatP|||ok, cheers. Any ideas on a text message notification method?|||As a great man is fond of saying: Huh?

Email works well enough for most things, and most SMS providers have a pop to SMS interface. Does that answer the question that you were asking?

-PatP|||i'll have to do a bit of research into that one, but generally yes it does answer my question. Just to give an outline of what im trying to do is when an error on the server occurs, it sends an email to a specified preson (or persons), along with an SMS message being sent to a specific person, so that they can get to the office and sort the problem out if out of hours.

Event Model supported in SRS?

I probably already know this answer, but I'll ask it anyway.
Can we respond to RS event within RS?
===================== Thanks!

p.s. Get off the couch and exercise!Sorry, I was rushed while writing this. Here's what I meant to ask...
Does RS raise events that we can respond to within code? We have the need
to update another server control based on a user expanding or drilling down
through a supplied MS control.
Does RS expose an event model? If not, will it be included in a future
release?

Event Log: Log Backup Successes

Is there a way to prevent logging the sucessful SQL Server Log Backups to
the application event log? This is not success of the job (we have write to
event log on failure for the job).
We have sql servers with 70 or so different databases on them and back up
the logs every 15 minutes. Do the math. We have to keep our event logs very
large in order to retain the worthwhile information for any length of time.
Thanks!
Michelle
A common request but the answer is no. Even amending the dlevel in
sysmessages won't stop it writing to the event log. We have consolidated
servers with 8 instances and hundreds of databases and I agree it's a
complete pain in the neck :-)

Event Log Warnings: Event 19011

Hi,
Anyone know the cause of the following 2 event log
warning messages that continue to appear every time the
MSSQLSERVER service is started?
1.
SuperSocket info: (SpnRegister) : Error 1355.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
2.
The description for Event ID ( 19011 ) in Source (
MSSQL$NETSDK ) cannot be found. The local computer may
not have the necessary registry information or message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You
may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this
description; see Help and Support for details. The
following information is part of the event:
(SpnRegister) : Error 1355.
Any leads would be appreciated.
Thanks,
RonBaisong,
Thank you for your reply and KB link.
I now understand what the cause of the warning messages
are, and how to deal with it.
Issue resolved. ;-))

Thank you for using MSDN Newsgroup! It's my pleasure to assist you with
your issue.
From your description, you got the following warning
SuperSocket Info: (SPNRegister) : Error 1355 and Event Category 8 / Event
ID 19011 everytime the SQL Server Service is started.
As I know, this message is not an error message. This text is only a
warning that SQL Server tries to write to the Active Directory, and
register the SPN (ServicePrincipalName or service name). The warning
indicates that it could not contact the Domain Controller to accomplish
this for security mechanism that will be used is Microsoft Windows NT
Challenge\Response (NTLM) authentication instead of Kerberos.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:

To avoid this message again, with Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3
(SP3), you can enable Kerberos authentication on server clusters. For
instructions on how to do this, see the following article in the Microsoft

Right click on the server in enterprise manager, click on the security
tab, then change the audit level to whatever you desire. I recommend you
leave it at Failure for a production system as a minimum, but I
personally prefer to log all activity.
You can change the event log size in Event Viewer, and you can tell it
to write over old log records so it doesn't fill up. I usually expand
mine to at least 10MB.

Event log Errors

I am getting an odd error being logged in the event log to do with reporting services.

Report Server (MSSQLSERVER) cannot connect to the report server database.

We have 2 servers in the farm running on IA64, these errors are showing on both nodes they are connecting to a clustered SQL server instance. The odd thing is though, everything seems to be working! Reports run, the web viewer works, we are able to deploy reports from VS2005. So i am at a bit of a loss as to where and why we keep getting these errors.

Thanks in advance

Can you connect to the report server using a browser?

What is the setting for the reportserver virtual directory security in IIS. Is it set to windows authentication?

|||

Yes we can connect via a browser both remotely and locally.

Yes it is set to Windows Auth, the virtual directory is on the local C Drive.

|||Is the event showing up after a reboot, or does it repeat consistently?|||They still show up after a reboot, they seem to be fairly random a group all at once or just one every so often.

>|||First of all, this is NOT an error message, it is an Application Event log
event entry. Informational. Issued by SQL Server.
The message says that the System explicitly truncated the transaction log.
Depending on your current database recovery mode setting, this may or may no
t
be an issue.
If the database is currently set to SIMPLE recovery, then there would be no
need to truncate the transaction log--it would happen automatically with
every checkpoint process.
On the other hand, if you are in Bulk_Logged or Full recovery, then
truncating the transaction log could render your database unrecoverable.
You'd have to restore the database from backup.
There are two possible recommendations:
1. Create a Full backup immediately after a truncate log action.
2. Initiate a transaction log backup schedule and stop truncating the log
entirely.

Anthony Thomas

I think this event log is related to the way we create our maintenance plan
as I stated in another request:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroup...exp=&sloc=en-us
Currently, our maintenance plan combines both master and the User databases
together. It also selects Transaction Log Backup option. Transaction Log
Backup always failed under the SQL Server Agent Jobs list.
Since disk space is not an issue at this point, I am thinking to restructure
the maintenance plan. Please let me know if you would also recommend the
following measure to protect our data. If you have a better idea which I
believe you definitely have, please let me know also. Again, thanks so much
for your help and support.
Maintenance Plan for System databases
---
1. Select Recovery mode Simple for master.
2. Select Recovery mode Full for model.
3. Select Recovery mode Simple for msdb.
4. Create a maintenance plan for these system databases.
5. Select all options (Reorganize data and index pages, check database
integrity, back up the database as part of the maintenance plan and etc)
except backup the transaction log.
Maintenance Plan for the User database
---
1. Select Recovery mode Full for the User database.
2. Create a maintenance plan for the User database.
5. Select all options (Reorganize data and index pages, check database
integrity, back up the database as part of the maintenance plan and etc)
including backup the transaction log.
Additional information: We have a Raid 5 disk array on our production
database server. We copy the database backup into a backup library and
another backup server.

|||First of all, this is NOT an error message, it is an Application Event log
event entry. Informational. Issued by SQL Server.
The message says that the System explicitly truncated the transaction log.
Depending on your current database recovery mode setting, this may or may not
be an issue.
2. Initiate a transaction log backup schedule and stop truncating the log
entirely.

Event log error after SQL 2005 developer install

I get the following errors in my application event log on each reboot after
installing SQL Server 2005 developer edition.
..NET Runtime Optimization Service (clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_32) - Failed
to compile: Microsoft.ReportingServices.QueryDesigners, Version=9.0.242.0,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91 . Error code = 0x80070002
and
..NET Runtime Optimization Service (clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_32) - Failed
to compile: Microsoft.ReportingServices.QueryDesigners, Version=9.0.242.0,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91 . Error code = 0x80070002
While they are the same error, it appears twice right after a reboot.
Any ideas? Is this a problem?

Jim,
I am getting the same error and was wondering if you had any luck with
finding an answer or explaination to what this is?
Thanks -

Event log entries - what do they mean?

I am new to SQL Server so any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have checked our event viewer, and the following are listed as information entries. I would like to know why they are appearing and what can I do to prevent them from displaying?

8128 Using sqlmap70.dll version 2000.80.534 to execute extended stored procedures xp_findnextmsg

15457 Serverity 0 state 1
Configuration option nested triggers changed from 0 to 1. Run teh RECONFIGURE statement to install

8128 Using xpstai.dll version 2000.80.534 to execute extend stored procedure xp_instances_regread

8128 Using xpslqbot.dll version 2000.80.194 to execute extended stored procedures xp_qvThese entries merely reflect activity that is occurring on the server. I don't think
there's any way to suppress them.

"8128 Using sqlmap70.dll version 2000.80.534 to execute extended stored procedures
xp_findnextmsg" These types of messages occur the first time an extended stored
procedure (xp) is executed. The xp could be called explicitly by a user, or it could
be the result of an internal process such as SQLDiag.

"15457 Serverity 0 state 1 Configuration option nested triggers changed from 0 to 1.
Run teh RECONFIGURE statement to install" This message means someone either ran
sp_configure or used SEM's server properties tab to change the settings for the
listed configuration value. BOL has information on sp_configure.

Event Log and SQL Server Agent

Hi Helper,
When I boot me server up, I always get an alert that says at least one
service or driver failed. I checked all of the logs in the event viewer.
The error is in the Application log. When I look at the properties of the
error I get a dialog box that has the description "Unable to read the
eventlog (Reason: The event log has changed between read operations). The
Source is SQLSERVERAGENT, the Category is Alert Engine, and the Event ID is
318.
How do I resolve this problem? What can I do to prevent getting this Alert
message and get this fixed?
Thanks,
KeithThat's nothing to worry about.
That message isn't the service failing to start, have a look in Event Viewer
(System). This is more likely to contain the service that's failing.

as Directory Service, DNS Server, File Replication Service, Service, or
Security. There are only messages of type Information and Warning. The
original message I describe below is of type Error with an X in a red
circle. Isn't it only the error messages rather than the information and
warning messages that cause the alerts? I do not want the Alert Message
saying at least on service or driver failed on boot up. I hope this
provides you with additional information to help me solve the problem. I'm
new to networking and database administration.

message' in the following manner.
In Control Services :-
Set the startup of SQLServerAgent and MSSQLServer to Manual
Stop both services
Clear all 3 Event Logs.
Reboot the Server.
The SQL Services are now not trying to start, if the Service didn't start
message appears it definalty hasn't come from SQL.
Alternitavly, Control Panel / Servcies.
Look at every service, ensure those with a Startup Type of AutoMatic are
all Status = Started.
If you have any Automatic starters that are not Started -- bingo...
