I have a report that I exported to Excel which contains dates in one column.
About 10% of the dates show up as ######## accross the width of the cell.
The column is plenty wide enough and if you double-click one of these cells
the date shows up fine. It also does it on a column that has percentages.
Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?What happens when you make the column very wide? Could it be trying to
format time in there as well?

Excel File Size after upgrade to SRS 2005
We have upgraded our RS 2000 instance to SRS 2005. We have seen that
reports exported to excel have gotten huge since the upgrade. For
example, we had a report that when run in RS 2000, would export to an
excel file that was 900KB. The same report exported to excel in SRS
2005 is now 12 meg! Is this because the original report was designed
in VS 2003? Would it improve if the report was re-deployed from VS
2005?Hey just check in your (huge) excel file is there any spaces or no of sheets
have been added. If spaces are there on your sheets will also increase the
size of the file.

Excel Export: How to force SSRS to generate Excel AVG and SUM formulas?
Hi
We are using SSRS 2005 to generate excel sheets. At this point we need to
have Excel SUM and AVG functionality in the exported Excel sheets, but SSRS
puts the resulting number instead of the actual formula. The problem is that
when end user modifies data, the SUM and AVG fields don't update according
to the changes.
Is there any way to force SSRS to generate SUM and AVG formulas instead of
generating the result numbers?
Any help would be appreciated,

When exporting my report to excel my field text gets exported as double
lines. Does anybody know a way around this?
eg:

it removes automatically when export to excel. Try reducing your row height
and see how excel renders.

We have a footer in our reports which displays a disclaimer in a textbox.
The disclaimer shows up fine when exported to PDF, but when exported to Excel
it chops off everything but the first 255 chars. Can someone explain why
this is happening?Frank,
How do you hide Footer for Browser/Web View and enable it only for Email
Subscription ( Email / Pdf / MHTML ) format. Is it possible to add Disclaimer
text on the Create Subscription Web method.

excel export footer is a literal?
When a report is exported to Excel, the footer is set to a literal "page 1 of 1" even though it's specified as
="Page " + CStr(Globals!PageNumber) + " of " + CStr(Globals!TotalPages)
in the rldc report definition.
Hence, if you print from Excel every page has the 'page 1 of 1' footer. Not very useful.
Is there a way to either suppress the output of the footer (only when going to Excel cause you need it when exporting to PDF) -or- get it to generate the correct excel footer of 'page 1 of ?'?

The above expression works but is wrong! The '&' should be used since this is VB syntax.
Changing the expression to
="Page " & Globals!PageNumber & " of " & Globals!TotalPages
fixes the problem!
Excel Export Error - Excel Can't Open File, CPU 100% Utilization
I've got an issue I cannot seem to address. We've upgraded to SP1, and I
still am not able to open Excel files exported from Reporting Services if
they contain more than a few hundred rows.
For example, I have a report which contains 1453 records. Exporting to an
Excel takes a few minutes, then generates a 7 MB file. Attempting to open
that file in Excel 2003 pegs my CPU utlilzation at 100%, and Excel steadily
consumes 8K of RAM per second, yet nothing happens. Excel will either
display as "Not Responding" in Task Manager, or will display "Running" and I
cannot switch back to Excel.
I can export to CSV and Excel will open it with no issues. However,
exporting to Excel is critical to our business' use of Reporting Services.
Please advise if anyone has a workaround or is encountering this issue.

The header on the report was causing the issue, as the fields were not lined
up with the data columns on my report, so I think Excel was goign nuts
trying to parse out all the merged columns. By making sure that the
descriptions in the header matched eneded at the same point as a column, the
file now takes about 50 secs to open on a Pentium 3 1Ghz machine.
So, when designing a header, make sure your test boxes line up with your
columns!

Excel Export Bug
I have some reports that I used vbcrlf in. Whenever they are exported to Excel only the first line appears.
Ex: Name (&vbcrlf)
Address 1 (& vbcrlf)
Address 2 (& vbcrlf)
City, State, Zip
This exports to Excel and displays the name line only.
However, if I close the file that was exported and the extra blank screen, and hit export to excel again for a second time, all of the information is displayed.
Okay, on another report that I designed in a matrix I have a row that has the line feed within it and it exports all of the information cleanly to excel. However if I choose a different parameter (There are only two parameters) then it only exports the top line. The only difference between the two parameters is in the calculation that is done in the stored procedure. What is displayed on the report is no different.
sqlExcel export - no gridlines
Does anyone have an issue with no gridlines appearing in reports exported to
Excel? I haven't been able to find any information on this anywhere. I
would like to be able to export directly to Excel and have it open with rows
and columns of data as if it were typed directly into Excel cells with no
fancy formatting. I have tried opening the exported Excel report and setting
the Gridlines option, but that doesn't work (not sure why, I'm on Excel 2003
SP1). I can create a .csv file and open it, but then you have to go through
the import wizard and I'm trying to make this easier for the end user.

border in Reporting Services. Not quite the same as a 'girdline', so
I'm not sure if it will fit your need.
You might want to look at Software Artisans ExcelWriter product. It
contains more Excel capabilities that integrate with MSRS.

I did figure out that if you copy the rows and paste them to a new
spreadsheet using Paste Special/ Paste - Values, it removes all the fancy
formatting. I did see the ExcelWriter software, but haven't checked into it

Excel Date Sort Issue on Mac
Hey all,
I have an interesting issue. We have information in an Access database ('03 version).....this information is exported to Excel ('03 version) where it is viewed and manipulated. In the date field, we use the format DDMMYYYY. On a PC, this works out just fine...the dates can be sorted properly. On a Mac however, it seems to be treating the same date field as text...so the sort might display 2Feb2007 before 3Jan2007 because 2 comes before 3....ignoring the rest of the date. The Mac user can take an extra step and change the format to "date" manually but for some reason they must click on each cell.....they can't do it by column.
SO....the questions for the experts out there:
1. Is there some type of glitch that occurs when these types of files are sent from PC to MAC that makes this happen?
AND
2. Is there anything that can be done at any stage to prevent it? (For example changing the way the variables are concatenated in Access, etc.)

Excel and pdf not searcheable
I cannot find a simple string or number within ANY and EVERY Excel file and
the only pdf I have EVER exported. My colleague System Administrator has
tried DOS and Search... also to no avail...
I have tried DOS, Windows Explorer Search..., Copernic Desktop Search and
MSN Desktop Search (Beta - circa yesterday). NONE of these apps is able to
find a result.
Is this a known bug (couldn't find another topic with 'search' and Excel in
the subject)? A configuration problem? What?
(Many) sample files can be supplied...
